A changed South Africa
Take the time to observe the environment that you live in, the people you meet every day. Whether it is that old coloured woman in the street passing out brochures of a college that is probably not registered with the state or that hobo that wears a pair of feet that look like shoes, but they do not have soles to be categorised as shoes, or look at your reflection on a car that is passing by, "hello baby" he says, *wink*, and then take note of the stares that you get from a group of gorgeous girls, who envy you for being greeted by that forty seven years old man driving that black Hummer H3, then stop for a second and ask yourself this... Is this a changed South Africa?
We have been in this so called democratic, diverse South Africa for over fifteen years now and even though most are content with the change, but what have we got to show that it is a better South Africa? Is it the attitude that parents get from their hormonal teenage boys who escape chores and discliplinary measures by saying "this is a new South Africa, you cannot hit me, or I will get you arrested" or young teenage girls who should be learning how to cook or grooming themselves, but they choose to spend their lives chasing after men who have planted seeds all over the country, and then they look at you and say "I did not say you should be ugly or have men phobia" So once again I ask, is this a changed South Africa?
I love the freedom that we have as South Africans, we are now inclined to lots of things and have opportunities open to every one of us. However, it feels like in the past when black South Africans didnt have much, they were able to handle themselves and treat each other as family, but now it seems like its the race of the greedy blacks, selfish blacks and oh god FULL OF RUBBISH BLACKS...
Our new South Africa has given us a platform where we can get up and decide what we want to do. The trick is though, you have to get up and do something. No lazying around and complaining about how some one stole your job. I am black, and I am a registered South Afircan, but when the xenophobia attacks were taking place, I was so ashamed to even call myself a proud South African.Who is so stupid to make a comment on live television to a reporter saying "the foreigners stole my job"? No so called "proud South African" would do what Zimbabwean vendors do. Zimbabweans are true business people, rain or blazing hot sun, you will still find him sitting under a tree and doing his job. No South African would do that...Why? Because South Africans are lazy people who want to be paid for doing absolutely nothing.
On that note, lets take it to the shops. It pleases me, to walk in a shop like Mr Price or CNA and find a black person being a manager, now thats a change. But what displeases me, is being followed and constantly asked whether I am here to buy or what. Like hello?! Now go to a fancy resturant, where all the blacks are the waiters and waittresses now thats where you will be pissed to the point of no return. You will wait, LITERALLY wait 10 to 15 minutes for some one to take your order, just your order, all because "Blacks do not give good tips". You have to note that this is a black person giving attitude to another black person (hear the whites laugh). But i am not done yet, its places like pick and pay and checkers hyper where you will really notice the black hypocrisy (i love my black people). Look at the way cashiers react whenever a white person is about to pay, "hello mam, how are you today", with a broad smile on their faces and a big thank you right after the white person has had their groceries neatly packed for them. But be "black like me" this is what you will get, a bad stinking attitude, a question whether you are going to pay card or cash, a plastic thrown just beside your groceries and a no thank or even a grin. Confused? yeah, so am i. I do not get it. Do black people still fear white people? Well, to pick and pay cashiers you will be so shocked to know that some black people are brave enough to ask for the manager.
Once more, is this a changed South Africa?
For some reason I feel it is time that we sideline white people and just pretend like they never existed, because them being in the picture makes black people put the blame on them and how 'apartheid'... whoa 'apartheid' yeah that, again, it awalys comes up, but people its been seventeen years now, GET OVER IT! Now it is time that people need to be looked at as individuals, not black, green or pink, just an individual with a name.
This new South Afirica is filled with hate, and jealousy. what happened to teachers who cared? Teachers who use to say, "i do my job because I love children and they are tommorrows future", clearly the 2007 strike possessed them into just striking and not working. From my experince, teachers only teach when an authoratative figure is watching, and unfortunately for public learners, that does not happen often, so your future is down the drain. If the changed South Africa includes this, i do not like it..
Our president?
JZ....
Our former presidents are clearly not good enough neh. Poor Thabo Mbeki, people couldnt stop pointing out his mistakes he actually had a nervous breakdown and handed in his resignation. JZ? Jacob Zuma, I wonder if he is strong enough to take on the power of the people. Its like he came with strike fever, people are striking for no reason. I think i should recruit some hobos and I will help them strike just because there is not enough rubbish in bins for them to eat. the only president who managed to run this country was Madiba and he made it a Rainbow nation, now people need to be honest, Thabo and JZ are failing as presidents because people cannot get the idea that Madiba is old and cannot come back, askies, but he is tired, or this freedom is really getting too much, "now every south african wants to rule south africa".
Personally I believe we need to give JZ or someone else a chance to at least try (and the someone else does not mean Julius Malema, he aint presidency material) or our country is doomed to fail.
All that this new so called changed South Africa needs are people with a changed attitude, and stop seeing each other as the enemies but rather as a family. A Rainbow Nation.
But i am still a proud South African because we have been through alot and I am sure we can handle this, even if it takes us two more generations.
